शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिताः समदर्शिनः ॥५/१८ ॥
ज्ञानी जन विद्या और विनययुक्त ब्राह्मण में तथा गौ, हाथी, कुत्ते और चांडाल में; समान भाव से एक ही परमात्मा (चेतना) को देखते हैं।

यह श्लोक 'समदृष्टि' (Equality of Vision) का अद्भुत उदाहरण है। कृष्ण कहते हैं कि जो वास्तव में ज्ञानी हैं, वे एक विद्या और विनय से युक्त ब्राह्मण में, एक गाय में, एक हाथी में, एक कुत्ते में और एक चांडाल (बहिष्कृत व्यक्ति) में एक ही तत्व को देखते हैं। जीवन का सबक यह है कि जैसे-जैसे हमारा ज्ञान बढ़ता है, हमारे भीतर का भेदभाव खत्म होना चाहिए। असली विद्वान वह नहीं है जो दूसरों को नीचा दिखाए, बल्कि वह है जो हर जीवित प्राणी के भीतर एक ही 'चेतना' को देख सके। यह सहानुभूति (Empathy) और मानवता का उच्चतम स्तर है।
