सुमन्तमण्डलः

नवाम्बुभिर्भूरिविलम्बिनो घनाः ।
अनुद्धताः सत्पुरुषाः समृद्धिभिः
स्वभाव एष परोपकारिणाम् ॥
फल आने पर वृक्ष झुक जाते हैं और जल भरने पर बादल नीचे आ जाते हैं; इसी प्रकार सज्जन व्यक्ति समृद्धि पाकर विनम्र हो जाते हैं, यही परोपकारियों का स्वभाव है।

यह सुभाषित 'विनम्रता' को प्रकृति के उदाहरणों से समझाता है। जैसे फलों के आने पर वृक्ष झुक जाते हैं, और नए जल से भरे हुए बादल आकाश में नीचे की ओर लटक आते हैं (बरसने के लिए तैयार होते हैं), वैसे ही श्रेष्ठ पुरुष समृद्धि (सफलता और धन) प्राप्त करने पर और भी अधिक विनम्र हो जाते हैं, वे अभिमानी नहीं होते। दूसरों का भला करने वालों का यह जन्मजात स्वभाव होता है। जीवन का सबक यह है कि अहंकार कमजोरी की निशानी है, जबकि विनम्रता असली ताकत की। जैसे-जैसे आप जीवन में ऊँचे उठें, वैसे-वैसे अपनी जड़ों और शालीनता की ओर झुकना सीखें।

This verse uses beautiful metaphors from nature to explain the virtue of Humility. It observes that trees bend down when they are laden with fruit, and clouds hang low when they are heavy with new rain (ready to give). Similarly, noble souls (Satpuruṣāḥ) remain humble and un-arrogant even when they attain great prosperity (Samṛddhi). This is the inherent nature of those who live for the welfare of others. The life lesson is: Success should not make you "stiff" with pride; it should make you more accessible and graceful. The more you have to give, the more humble you should become.
