परोपकाराय वहन्ति नद्यः ।
परोपकाराय दुहन्ति गावः
परोपकाराय शरीरमिदम् ॥
वृक्ष परोपकार के लिए फल देते हैं, नदियाँ परोपकार के लिए बहती हैं और गायें परोपकार के लिए दूध देती हैं;उसी प्रकार यह मनुष्य शरीर भी परोपकार (दूसरों की सेवा) के लिए ही है।

यह सुभाषित हमें 'निःस्वार्थ सेवा' का पाठ पढ़ाता है। प्रकृति स्वयं परोपकार का सबसे बड़ा उदाहरण है: वृक्ष स्वयं के लिए नहीं बल्कि दूसरों के लिए फल देते हैं, नदियाँ अपना जल स्वयं नहीं पीतीं बल्कि प्यासों की तृप्ति के लिए बहती हैं, और गायें दूसरों के पोषण के लिए दूध देती हैं। इसी प्रकार, यह मानव शरीर भी केवल स्वयं के भोग के लिए नहीं, बल्कि दूसरों की सहायता और परोपकार के लिए मिला है। जीवन का सबक यह है कि सार्थकता 'संग्रह' करने में नहीं, बल्कि 'योगदान' देने में है। जो व्यक्ति समाज के काम आता है, उसका अस्तित्व प्रकृति के समान पूजनीय हो जाता है।\
