In ancient Indian statecraft, weapons (Astra/Śastra) are considered secondary to diplomatic speech. An arrow shot from a bow can only kill a person once, but a cruel word (Duroktam) kills a person mentally every single day. The Mahābhārata war itself was not triggered merely by the theft of land, but by the unhealed verbal wounds inflicted in the royal assembly (e.g., Draupadī being called a slave, or Karṇa being insulted for his lineage).

There is a famous English proverb: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." This ancient Sanskrit verse proves that this English proverb is completely wrong. Modern psychology entirely agrees with Mahāmantrī Vidura. Physical injuries heal in weeks, but verbal abuse, childhood emotional trauma, and cyberbullying leave permanent neurological and psychological scars.
